The lack of ecological connectivity in urban fabrics subjected to site-by-site densification processes
is clearly reflected in the Ciudad Jardín neighborhood in the south of the capital. This
neighborhood has some soft zones distributed within the neighborhood, but among these the one
that stands out the most is the park of the founders of Ciudad Jardín, and as a central and most
relevant point is the hydrographic basin of the Fucha River, where water flows down from the Cruz
Verde páramo in the eastern hills of Bogota.
In a traditional neighborhood such as Ciudad Jardín we can see certain determinants such as the
low height of its buildings, which translates into higher occupancy rates which prevents the
permeability of the soil with the ecological structure, minimizes the amount of soft areas that can
be obtained and biases any vestige of ecological connectivity that could be had.
As a response to the problem, the work proposes a consolidated urban renewal plan in which the
renovation will go from a property-by-property renovation to a joint renovation of the properties
that make up a total of seven blocks in the neighborhood. This will achieve much lower occupancy
rates and higher construction rates which will substantially improve the ecological connectivity
and respectively its index.
