Umbral y Conectividad: un Nuevo Enfoque en el Diseño de Aeropuertos. La Arquitectura del Umbral en la Intervención de una Infraestructura Aeroportuaria

Abstract

Este trabajo de grado explora en profundidad el concepto de umbral en la arquitectura y su papel como herramienta de diseño. En particular, se analiza su aplicación en la ampliación y reconfiguración del aeropuerto actual de Tumaco, en Nariño, destacando cómo puede transformar la experiencia de los usuarios en esta infraestructura clave para la región. Los umbrales, en este contexto, no solo representan límites físicos, sino también espacios de transición que facilitan un flujo continuo y armónico entre áreas con distintas características, como las zonas públicas y privadas o los espacios interiores y exteriores del edificio. El proyecto plantea que estos espacios intermedios no son meros lugares de paso, sino elementos esenciales para estructurar una experiencia sensorial que enriquezca la interacción de los usuarios con el espacio arquitectónico y con la región que este representa.

This thesis explores in depth the concept of thresholds in architecture and their role as a design tool. It analyzes their application in the expansion and reconfiguration of the current Tumaco Airport in Nariño, highlighting how they can transform the user experience of this key infrastructure for the region. Thresholds, in this context, not only represent physical boundaries but also transitional spaces that facilitate a continuous and harmonious flow between areas with distinct characteristics, such as public and private areas or the interior and exterior spaces of the building. The project proposes that these intermediate spaces are not mere passageways, but essential elements for structuring a sensorial experience that enriches the user's interaction with the architectural space and the region it represents.
