The present work was carried out in order to establish an opportunity for improvement in
the Colombian floriculture sector, through the analysis of the impact of environmental
certifications in the European market. Through the implementation of a descriptive survey, it
seeks to understand why floriculturists have not implemented The Milieu Programma Sierteelt
(MPS) certification and sustainable practices, to adapt their products to the new needs of the
European market. Since without this accreditation, the country is unable to cope with the
behavior of European consumers and which affects the purchase decision of Colombian flowers.
The survey is focused on understanding the impediments or difficulties that floriculturists in
Bogotá face in their production processes, which hinder the application of these regulations,
affecting the way in which the product is perceived in the international market. Since the
application or compliance with these standards helps to increase sales in the countries of the
European Union. In turn, to understand the challenges involved in obtaining the certificate,
taking into account the minimum requirements demanded by the entities issuing the MPS
