This thesis aims to analyze the effective use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a sustainable innovation tool in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the consumer goods sector in Colombia. It argues that when implemented strategically, AI not only supports and strengthens managerial decision-making but also drives sustainable innovation processes over time. First, a historical framework is presented that contextualizes the adoption of generative AI technologies in SMEs, highlighting previous practices before their emergence and how the landscape shifted after 2023, following the market recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, six specific cases of both Colombian and international SMEs that have integrated AI into their marketing strategies and decision-making processes are analyzed. As a conceptual model, the Innovation Diamond (DdI) is employed to analyze how innovation arises from different contexts. The study focuses on three key points of the model: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Competitiveness, using indicators such as the Global AI Index, the Aggregate Competitiveness Index, and the Global Cybersecurity Index. Through strategic master matrices, the analysis is conducted at three levels: international, national, and within the target population. These matrices were built based on secondary information and a survey applied to individuals from consumer goods SMEs, identifying perceptions of AI’s impact, its contribution to competitiveness, and the level of cybersecurity preparedness. Finally, the analysis confirmed that AI, when integrated with competitiveness and cybersecurity strategies, is a key source of innovation in managerial decision-making in marketing. Its implementation strengthens the adaptability, competitiveness, and growth of Colombian SMEs.en
