Some Latin American countries have been put in place instruments to reduce business

instruments to reduce business informality, which usually goes hand in hand with the evasion of
tax obligations. In this direction in Colombia, in 2016, legislation is legislated creating the monotax
which did not ensure the expected reception, which leads to replace it in 2019 with the new Simple
Taxation Regime, created with the 2010 law of economic growth, in order to promote business
formalization and simplify the collection of taxes, providing a series of benefits directly associated
with the reduction of formal burdens and in some cases even substantial ones. The purpose of this
letter is to analyze what it consists of, the benefits and risks for those who benefit from it, the level
of knowledge that the beneficiaries of the new simple tax regime have, as well as the impact on
the acceptance of this regime, associated on the one hand with the promotion of business formality
and on the other hand with the decision-making of traders, since registering in this, can mean
decreasing or increasing tax and procedural expenses.
